Can I create numbered headers in MS Word with automatic table of contents?
Answer
Yes you can.To create numbered headers and to create an automatic table of contents in MS Word, you need to apply styles to your headings first. Styles work with headers, which in turn help generate an automatic table of contents.
Styles basically allow you to set formatting attributes e,g. Font size, Bold etc which once set can be applied to text on your document such as headers and sub headers.
Follow this FAQ link to apply styles to your headers in MS Word and find out more about Styles in word. Once you have applied styles to your headers e.g. Header 1, Header 2 and so on, it's then very easy to define numbered headers which you can apply to headers in your document without having to type them in.
