How to set an MS Word document with a combination a one-column and two-column layout (Journal Style)?

Answer

If you are working on a journal-style layout, you may wish to have a combination of a one column layout and a two column layout in the same document. For example, a one-column standard layout for the Journal Title and then a two-column layout for the article text:

Step 1: Leave the line(s) for your journal article as the default one-column layout.

Step 2: Place the mouse cursor on the first line below the title where you want the two-column section to start.

  • Go to the Layout tab and click Columns>More Columns. (click on the screenshot to magnify).

  • In the columns setting window, select Two columns and select 'This Point Forward' in the “Apply to” dropdown.
  • Click OK.
