Manually Adjusting Reference Format to Single Line Spacing (with or without a Hanging Indent)

Answer

Single-spacing and normal text (no indentation)

  • Type in your references as normal and press Enter on your keyboard at the end of each reference as you would with paragraphs.
  • Select all the references, then Right-click and choose Paragraph.
  • In the Paragraph window:
    • Navigate to Spacing and select Single from the line spacing drop-down menu.
    • Additionally, add 6 points before and after the paragraphs. This will introduce 6 points of 'white' space between the references, as illustrated in the image below.

Hanging Indent and Single-spacing

If you need to add a hanging indent to each reference, you can do so within the same paragraph window.

  • Select all the references.
  • Right-click and select Paragraph.
  • In the Paragraph Window:
    • Maintain single line spacing to and set both the before/after spacing at 6 pt.
    • Under, keep the Left and Right as 0 cm, but select the Special drop-down to Hanging and set the indentation value (for example, 0.7cm as shown in the example below).
