The answer to this question is not straight-forward. It depends on the format of the eBook that you want to read, and in some instances, the publisher that hosts the eBook for library users to access.

A high number of the eBooks that are provided by DMU Library are subject to DRM (Digital Rights Management) restrictions set by different publishers and providers. The library may purchase an eBook outright (like a print book) or subscribe to electronic titles through a larger online rental collection. DRM restrictions usually apply to purchased or subscribed eBooks where the publisher wants to ensure no unauthorised access is taking place by non-DMU students and staff. A DRM-protected eBook downloads as a ACSM file - these files are not compatible with Kindle (except Kindle Fire), and require Adobe Digital Editions software or the Adobe Digital Editions app installed on a device in order for the title to be downloaded for offline reading. DMU does work with some content providers that offer DRM-free eBooks. If this is the case for an eBook that you want to view, and the title is available for download, we would advise downloading the eBook as a PDF. PDF files are compatible with Kindle devices. The library works with many eBook providers, but two of the largest, EBSCO and ProQuest, have support information on downloading their eBooks to a Kindle device.
