How do I reference stock images from Microsoft software (MS Word, MS PowerPoint, etc.) in Cite Them Right Harvard?
When using images from Microsoft software in your work they have to be cited and referenced like other images.
How do you do this?
There is often little provenance information, so use a short description as the title and any other information that is available. This is the information needed:
- Title of image (in italics)
- Year of publication (in round brackets)
- [Medium]
- (Accessed: date)
Example
In-text citation
The presentation included the image of Red and white beach umbrellas (no date).
Reference list
Red and white beach umbrellas (no date) [Microsoft stock image]. (Accessed: 5 November 2025).
The above information is taken from this page on the Cite Them Right website (log-in required).
